We decided to get some winter sun by travelling to Alicante with our 5 month old and I was really surprised and happy by how accessible the city of Alicante is for prams and little ones, and this area of Spain! So, if you are thinking of visiting Alicante with a baby, I would recommend it and this is why!
Alicante with a Baby

This area of Spain is well aquatinted with families, especially UK families because Alicante is where you fly in to visit the well loved holiday destination of Benidorm,
Recommended Post: We also loved visiting Sicily with our baby!
Families flying to Alicante and back
And one of the things that I realised straight away when queuing for the flight was that there was no need to worry about my potentially crying baby on the flight because the flight was full of families also off to get some Spanish sun.
As a new mum, this idea is really reassuring and when our flight home was delayed and everyone was tired, the other guests on the plane were so understanding of my baby being a bit moany on the plane with lots of ahhh’s and plenty of other children were loud and crying too so it wasn’t just us!
Pushchairs available in Airport
Talking of the airport, I saw free pushchairs offered in Alicante Airport which lots of people on out flight were making the most of in the boarding area as we had a late night flight so many young children were chilling in them.
Free pushchairs are offered in the luggage collection area and boarding area of Alicante airport. Although note they are fixed pushchairs better for toddlers and older babies than young babies like we had at the time. (and we took our own pram anyway)
Alicante Old Town is pram friendly
We spent a few days in the area of Alicante with one day in Alicante city itself and I found Alicante Old Town to be very pushchair and pram friendly.
The old town is a relatively flat area and where we did see steps, there was a ramp nearby for the pram too which is a total bonus and doesn’t happen that often making Alicante with a baby easy to visit!

Where I don’t recommend with a pram near Alicante
In contrast to this, we stayed in Calpe further up the coast for a few days and so we visited some more towns near there and I did find Altea Old Town hard to visit with a pram because there are quite a few big steps around the old town area. We did manage to drag the pram up and down them, and the baby actually loved bumping about, but it did make me appreciate the ease of Alicante Old Town much more afterwards.
We also went to El Castell de Guadalest slightly inland, we took the baby in the carrier for this and I’m glad we did as again, there are a lot of steps and bumpy pathways which would be hard with a pram or pushchair.

Alicante Castle has a lift to the top
One of the top tourist attractions in Alicante is Alicante castle- Castillo de Santa Bárbara, a medieval castle perched on top of the hill behind the city.
Although it is popular to walk up to the castle, or down, you don’t need to worry about this at all as opposite the beach is an entrance to the castle with a lift taking you all the way through the rock to the top!
So if you are looking for things to do in Alicante with a baby or things to do in Alicante with young children, going to the castle is a good one!
I will say that it was pretty bumpy at the top because of the stone pathway so at one point we did leave the pram and carried the baby but it wasn’t that bad.

Alicante Beach is very accessible
It wasn’t warm enough for us to chill on the beach in Alicante with the baby however we walked past it and it’s a very nice and accessible city beach, right next to the old town making it great to visit with young children!
Alicante is a popular destination for an extreme day trip and one of the reasons is because of it’s great city beach, and how close the city is to the airport, so and I would definitely consider a day trip to Alicante with my stepsons when the baby is older to just spend the day on the beach and then fly back!
Roads are good for driving
Alicante Airport, Alicante and the nearby areas including Benidorm are all well connected via a tram so they are easy to travel between with a pram. Alternatively, if you hire a car and drive around like we did, all of the roads were really good and smooth, perfect for travelling with a baby and young children. There were no bumps or super windy roads!
People were friendly to the baby
Lastly, something that really stood out to me was how friendly people were with our baby in and around Alicante. I think it’s known that Spanish people love children and babies and we definitely felt that in restaurants, cafes and as we walked around,
