What are the best countries to visit in July?? This is a popular question because of the kids school holidays meaning families have the most time to travel in July!
‘The Best’ could refer to a few different things, but in this post, instead of including countries like Spain, Greece, Portugal, which we all know are good places to visit in July because they are so popular, I’ve detailed countries where the weather is good and not too hot and where crowds will be fewer. Making well-planned options like vacation packages to Egypt an appealing choice for families looking for something memorable without peak-season chaos.
It can also be hard to work out where to go on holiday in July because many countries in Asia and the Caribbean have humid, hot, wet weather and many of the European hotspots are expensive and busy!

This list is going to help you decide where to travel in July giving you epic ideas and trips! Think of mountain adventures in Norway, dry season travel in Indonesia, road trips in Ireland and wildlife encounters in Uganda!
Because many people are wondering where to go away in July because of their children being on school holidays, I have given lots of family friendly places in this list and all 20 places are on my own wishlist to travel to, or travel to again, with my family during the summer holidays in future!
1. ITALY

I’ve visited Italy many times, and while the big cities can feel hot and crowded in July, I’ve learned that the real magic is in the north in summer. The mix of mountains, lakes and smaller towns makes everything feel calmer, cooler and so much more enjoyable in summer.
One of my favourite places has to be Lake Garda. It’s the perfect July destination — warm, sunny days with just enough of a breeze from the lake to keep things comfortable. When we took the kids there the other year, we spent our time swimming, taking boat trips and exploring the little towns around the shore. Having Italy’s biggest theme park and a waterpark close by made it even better, especially for family trips.
The Dolomites in July is also a great idea. The hiking trails are open, the scenery is unreal and the alpine flowers add so much colour to the landscape. If you want a bit of city life mixed in, Trento is a great base — small enough to feel relaxed, but lively enough to soak up some Italian culture before heading back into the mountains. Don’t get me wrong, the Dolomites get busy in the summer months so don’t expect it all to yourself but it’s a great option for summer holidays away from hot, busy beach towns.
2. NORWAY

Norway in July is when the country truly comes to life. While many travellers associate Norway with winter adventures, summer is an incredible time to visit, offering long daylight hours, comfortable temperatures and breathtaking scenery at every turn.
The further north you travel, the more dramatic the landscapes become. The Lofoten Islands, located within the Arctic Circle, feel almost unreal with their white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, colourful fishing villages and towering mountains and thanks to the midnight sun in July, you can enjoy these views for nearly 24 hours a day in ideal summer conditions… talk about making the most of your money!
Norway’s cities also shine in summer. Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger are vibrant and full of life, making them perfect stops on a scenic Norway road trip. With extended daylight and locals making the most of the season, one of the best countries to visit in July is Norway!

3. IRELAND

I told you there would be a mix of places and ideas of where to travel in July, and Ireland in July is a great option! While Ireland isn’t known for guaranteed sunshine, summer brings milder temperatures, longer daylight hours and the perfect conditions for discovering its stunning landscapes.
The West Coast of Ireland is full of unforgettable sights, from the charming Aran Islands and the dramatic Cliffs of Moher to scenic hikes in Connemara National Park. Add in live traditional music in Galway, and you have a destination that blends natural beauty with rich culture, and one of my favourite places.
For a big road trip, the Wild Atlantic Way — often called Ireland’s Route 66 — is an incredible coastal drive stretching over 2,500 km along the west coast. July is an ideal month to tackle part (or all) of this route, with long, light evenings making it easier to fit more into each day.
Those extended daylight hours also mean you can visit popular spots later in the evening, avoiding peak crowds while still enjoying clear views — perfect for places like the Cliffs of Moher which is what I did the other summer.. I waited until all the coach tours had left and went when it was empty!

4. SWEDEN

If you fancy a holiday in July in the woods living out cabin life, Sweden in July is for you! The other year I fancied the same and rented a cabin on a lake just 2 hours from Stockholm at the end of August, only to get there and realise that summer had already ended and everything was quiet because in Scandinavia the kids go back to school mid August, and I should have gone in June or July!
Therefore, visiting Sweden in July will offer you the chance to see how the Swedes to summer with long summer days, swimming in lakes and cabin life and the further North you go in Sweden the more epic the scenery and experience will be.
However the cities in July like Stockholm and Gothenburg still buzz with outdoor cafés, music festivals, and waterfront events and warm but comfortable weather makes sightseeing easy, and the whole country feels brighter, friendlier, and ready to be enjoyed at its very best.
5. GOZO, MALTA

I want this post of best countries to visit in July to focus on the lesser thought of destinations, especially in Europe and the island of Gozo which is part of Malta is a great option for a summer holiday in Europe in July!
While Malta’s main island gets busy in summer, Gozo stays a bit more relaxed, offering golden days, clear blue waters, and beautiful beaches like Ramla Bay for swimming and snorkeling. The warm weather makes it easy to explore charming villages, coastal paths, and historic sites like the Ġgantija Temples.
July also brings Gozo’s culture to life with colorful village festas, evening fireworks, and lively outdoor dining by the sea. If you’re looking for a Mediterranean getaway that feels both vibrant and laid-back, Gozo in July is hard to beat and is a great option to the likes of Greece, Cyprus and mainland Malta which are very busy in July.
6. MOROCCO

I won’t lie to you, Morocco in July is very hot! But, because of this, it does benefit from cheaper flights than other popular countries in July like Spain and Greece and if you are happy to spend your days in a swimming pool, you can survive it!
We went to Marrakesh the other summer and rented this gorgeous private family villa and although it was very very hot, days spent in the pool, a day trip to a water park and evenings in the city were just what we wanted and the flights to Marrakesh from Manchester were some of the cheapest we could find during the start of the kids summer school holiday aka July!
Seaside towns like Tangier and Agadir are a bit cooler in July than the inland city of Marrakesh however they will still be hot, but with a pool and chilled days planned, you can enjoy it! Or, if you fancy a mountain holiday in July, head to the highest point in North Africa, Mount Toubkal!

7. SOUTH AFRICA

As it’s winter in the southern hemisphere, South Africa is one of the best countries to visit in July because the weather is perfect for sightseeing, road trips and outdoor adventures without the intense summer heat.
The Garden Route is especially beautiful at this time of year, with dramatic coastlines, forest walks and charming seaside towns to explore. July is also the start of whale season along parts of the coast, making it an even more special time for a scenic drive through places like Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
In Cape Town, July brings a calmer, more relaxed feel. It’s a great time to enjoy the city’s food scene, visit the nearby winelands and explore iconic spots like Table Mountain and Cape Point without peak-season crowds.
For wildlife lovers, Kruger National Park is at its best in July. The dry season makes it easier to spot animals as they gather around water sources, and the cooler weather makes safari days far more comfortable — rounding off the perfect South African winter escape.
8. TANZANIA

Tanzania is an incredible country to visit in July, especially if you’re looking for wildlife, warm days and unforgettable scenery. July falls in the dry season, which means clear skies, comfortable temperatures and some of the best safari conditions of the year, especially on a luxury safari.
One of the biggest highlights is the Serengeti, where July marks the start of the Great Migration river crossings. Watching thousands of wildebeest and zebra move across the plains — often facing crocodile-filled rivers — is one of the most dramatic wildlife experiences in the world. The dry weather also makes animals easier to spot as they gather around water sources… what a way to spend the summer school holidays if you have children!
Beyond safari, Zanzibar island is the perfect place to unwind after your adventures. July brings sunny days and cooling ocean breezes, ideal for relaxing on white-sand beaches, snorkelling in turquoise waters and exploring the historic streets of Stone Town.
9. UGANDA

Continuing the theme of epic summer school holiday destinations in July for the family… Uganda is an amazing place to visit in July, especially for travellers looking for adventure, wildlife and something a little different. July falls in the dry season, bringing warmer days, less rainfall and ideal conditions for exploring the country’s national parks and rainforests.
One of the biggest highlights is gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The drier trails in July make hiking more manageable, and seeing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience. It’s also a great time for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, with animals easier to spot as they move through the trees.
For classic safari lovers, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park are at their best in July. The dry season means wildlife gathers around rivers and waterholes, making game viewing more rewarding — from elephants and lions to hippos and crocodiles.
10. MAURITUIS

Mauritius is one of the best places to visit in July if you’re dreaming of a tropical escape in the summer school holidays. This time of year brings cooler, more comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for getting outdoors — whether that’s hiking through lush landscapes, exploring local towns or simply enjoying long, sunny days by the sea. With lower rainfall and clear skies, July offers some of the island’s best all-round weather.
Another big bonus of visiting in July is that it falls just outside the busiest travel season. That means fewer crowds, better-value hotel rates and a much more relaxed atmosphere across the island. It’s the perfect time to explore Mauritius’ natural and cultural highlights, from the famous seven-coloured earth in Chamarel to the giant water lilies in the Botanical Gardens, and the lively streets of Port Louis, including the Citadel and Central Market.
11. INDONESIA

When people ask me ‘where is the best place to travel in July?’ my answer is INDONESIA! Because whilst much of the South East Asia region is dealing with high humidity and tropical downpours, many of Indonesia’s islands are right in the middle of their dry season — making July the perfect time for beach days, island hopping and outdoor exploring.
Some of the best places to visit in Indonesia in July include:
- Gili Islands
- Bali
- Sumba Island
- Komodo & Flores
- Yogyakarta
- Munduk
The Gili Islands are perfect if you’re craving a slower pace of life. With no cars and transport limited to bicycles and horse-drawn carts, these tiny islands offer laid-back beach days, crystal-clear water and a real escape-from-it-all feel.
Bali is always a favourite — and July is one of the best months to experience it. From the spiritual calm of Ubud, to the dramatic cliffs of Nusa Penida, the café culture of Canggu, or relaxing in a great-value resort, Bali offers something for every kind of traveller.
If you’re looking to go off the beaten path, Sumba Island is ideal in July. With far less development, rugged coastlines and palm-fringed beaches, it’s perfect for travellers who want peace, nature and uncrowded surf spots.
And for a true bucket-list experience, head to Komodo and Flores. July brings excellent weather for exploring Komodo National Park, where you can see the famous Komodo dragons, snorkel vibrant reefs and take multi-day boat trips through some of Indonesia’s most breathtaking scenery… again, an epic school summer holiday destination if you’re travelling with children!

12. MALAYSIA

Not all of Malaysia is at its best in July, as some parts of the country can be hot and humid — but certain destinations in Malaysia truly shine in July!
The Perhentian Islands, off the northeast coast, are a perfect July escape and where I recommend highly to go! These islands are only open from March to October due to monsoon weather, so summer is when they’re at their best. In July, the seas are clear, the skies are bright and conditions are ideal for snorkelling, diving and lazy beach days. If your idea of a holiday is barefoot living, turquoise water and relaxed island vibes, the Perhentians are hard to beat.
For something more adventurous, Borneo is another fantastic option in July. Using Kuching as a base, you can explore rainforests, visit national parks and experience one of the few places in the world where you can see orangutans in the wild. July falls in peak season here, so it’s busier — but the great weather makes it one of the best times of year to discover Malaysia’s wild side.

13. NORTHERN PAKISTAN

Pakistan might not be the first country that comes to mind for a July holiday, but it’s a destination that really shines in summer — especially if you head North. While cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad can be extremely hot at this time of year, the mountain regions of northern Pakistan offer cooler air, open landscapes and some of the most spectacular scenery in Asia.
July is an ideal month to explore the mountains, with long days and clear skies. It’s a great time for hiking, sightseeing and travelling between valleys, as high mountain roads are fully open after winter. You can enjoy warm days and cooler evenings, perfect for exploring by day and relaxing under the stars at night.
Two of the best places to base yourself are Skardu and Hunza. Both regions are easily reached by short flights from the south and are known for their dramatic peaks, glacier-fed rivers and peaceful villages.
With its breathtaking landscapes, welcoming communities and ideal summer conditions, Pakistan in July offers an unforgettable adventure for travellers looking to go somewhere truly different.

14. MALDIVES

Another amazing island escape for July is the Maldives! The Maldives is a great destination in July. Although it’s technically part of the wetter season, rainfall usually comes in short bursts rather than all-day downpours, leaving plenty of time to enjoy sunshine, warm seas and island life.
July is also a fantastic time for snorkelling and diving. The ocean is rich with marine life, and this time of year is especially good for spotting manta rays and whale sharks in certain atolls. Water temperatures stay beautifully warm, making it perfect for swimming, lagoon cruises and sunset boat trips.
Another big advantage of visiting in July is the quieter, more relaxed atmosphere. Resorts often offer better deals, and with fewer guests around, the Maldives feels even more peaceful and exclusive. If you’re dreaming of overwater villas, turquoise lagoons and total relaxation, July is a wonderful time to experience this island paradise.
15. EAST COAST MEXICO

If seeing whale sharks is on your bucket list, you’ll be happy to know that July is one of the best months to spot them in the waters of the Yucatán Peninsula aka the Eastern Coast of Mexico. These gentle giants migrate to eastern Mexico from June to September, when the warm seas become a rich feeding ground .
One of the easiest places to base yourself is Isla Mujeres, just off the coast of Cancún. Thanks to Cancún’s international airport, getting there is simple, and from the island you can join boat trips that take you straight into prime whale shark territory.
Another fantastic spot that I loved so much when we did our Eastern Coast Mexico Road Trip is Isla Holbox, a laid-back island on Mexico’s northeast coast. Known for its relaxed vibe, sandy streets and beautiful beaches, Holbox is also one of the top places to swim with whale sharks in July. It’s the perfect combination of adventure and island life — making Mexico in July a dream destination for wildlife lovers and beach seekers alike, and you can fit in trips to Chichen Itza and plenty of Cenotes too!
16. ABC CARIBBEAN ISLANDS

The ABC Islands — Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao — are not actually countries but I can’t gatekeep them because whilst many parts of the Caribbean have rain and storms in July, thanks to their unique location below the hurricane belt, these are some of the best Caribbean islands to visit in July because of their warm, sunny weather and far more reliable conditions throughout the summer.
Aruba, often called the Happy Island, is especially lovely in July. With low rainfall and plenty of sunshine, it’s the perfect time to enjoy its stunning white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water and outdoor adventures inland. Whether you’re relaxing by the sea or exploring Arikok National Park, July offers ideal conditions for making the most of the island.
Bonaire is a quieter gem, well known for its incredible diving and snorkelling. July brings calm seas and great visibility, making it a dream destination for water lovers.
And then there’s Curaçao, with its colourful capital Willemstad, beautiful beaches and rugged landscapes — a perfect blend of culture and nature. Together, the ABC Islands offer a sunny, storm-free Caribbean escape that’s hard to beat in July.
To make it easier, why not look into a Caribbean Cruise to these islands in July??
17. JAMACIA

Another great Caribbean island escape in July is Jamaica which offers warm tropical weather, lush green landscapes and a more relaxed vibe than the peak winter season.
Jamaica avoids the hurricane season in July although you won’t be without rain, it does usually come in short showers, leaving plenty of sunshine for beach days, sightseeing and outdoor adventures.
July is a great time to experience Jamaica’s natural beauty, from cooling off at Dunn’s River Falls to exploring the Blue Mountains or relaxing on the white-sand beaches of Negril and Montego Bay. The sea is warm and perfect for swimming, snorkelling and boat trips, making it easy to enjoy the island’s laid-back coastal lifestyle.
Another bonus of visiting Jamaica in July is the easy-going atmosphere. With fewer crowds than peak season and often better-value accommodation, the island feels more peaceful and authentic.
18. CANADA

Canada is a fantastic country to visit in July, with long sunny days, warm temperatures and endless opportunities to explore the outdoors. It’s one of the best months for travel thanks to reliable weather across much of the country, making it ideal for road trips, hiking, city breaks and national park adventures — all without the extremes of winter cold or early summer rain.
If you’re looking for great weather with fewer crowds, some of the best places to visit in July include Vancouver Island, the Canadian Rockies beyond Banff, and Newfoundland. While Banff and Lake Louise are popular, nearby spots like Yoho National Park and Kootenay National Park offer equally stunning scenery with a calmer, more relaxed feel.
July is also a brilliant time to explore Canada’s cities. Calgary, Ottawa and Quebec City all enjoy pleasant summer weather, lively festivals and a more local atmosphere. Whether you’re after mountains, coastlines or culture, Canada in July delivers the perfect balance of sunshine, space and unforgettable scenery.
19. AUSTRALIA

Australia is right in the middle of its winter in July but that’s not a reason to not go! Firstly, a trip to Australia means you’ll want to visit for as long as possible, and for many with kids, July is the only time of year you can visit for a good few weeks outside of school time and July makes for a great time to visit Australia as long as you have the right expectations.
Sydney never gets that cold although you won’t be sunbathing and swimming there in July, however many winters days are crisp with blue skies and a great way to see the city and do many of the coastal walks.
Melbourne gets colder (I say as someone who spent 2 winters there), but again, it’s a great city to explore with so many neighbours to check out and great coffee to keep warm!
On the other hand, there is a high season of travel in Australia in winter aka July and that’s to Northern Australia in the Darwin region and the Red Centre. I did a Red Centre 3 day tour in winter in Australia and even though it was hot, it wasn’t 40c + like it gets in summertime, aka December and January and this is the same for Darwin. Darwin is brimming with life in July with night markets, events and domestic tourists enjoying the dry heat sunshine!
20. NEW ZEALAND

Another great country in the Southern Hemisphere to visit in July is New Zealand! New Zealand comes alive in winter in many ways, especially in Queenstown where’s its peak ski season!
The Northern Island of New Zealand doesn’t get as cold and snowy in July making it a good time for a quieter road trip than the summer months and yes, it will be chilly but you don’t go to New Zealand to sunbathe, you go for adventures (and great food!) and all of these will be available in July, you’ll just need a jacket, warm clothes and the right expectations.
